A random fic with a random pairing. How did it come to be? I recently got into watching tennis, found both Emma Raducanu and Iga Świątek cute, discovered ChatGPT, and began experimenting with this AI model capable of receiving input and generating output in natural language. Et voilà! This Frankenstein's monster was born.
This fic is generated by an instance of ChatGPT (GPT-4) which I renamed FanficGPT. This story is nowhere near close to a finished work. I do not have the story planned out, and I only throw out suggestions to FanficGPT as lightbulbs appear next to my head. Not even I know what will happen, except for perhaps the general direction and some rough ideas. As a result, the Relationships, Characters, and Additional Tags are incomplete.
I don't even know that much about tennis. Expect the level of understanding of someone who's only recently begun half watching Tennis Channel and read some tabloid articles.
FanficGPT was instructed to closely follow the writing style of A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin when composing this story. I have never written any fan fiction, nor do I claim to be a fanfiction writer. I am merely the idea provider, taste director and occasional editor, the useless user who lords over FanficGPT and keeps torturing the poor thing by ordering it to do something it does not yet possess the full capacity to do.
(As of March 2023, ChatGPT is not able to learn from individual conversations with users. While ChatGPT is able to remember what the user has said earlier in the conversation, there is a limit to how much information it can retain. The model is able to reference up to approximately 3000 words, or 4000 tokens, from the current conversation - any information beyond that is not stored.)
Due to ChatGPT's limited memory, there will most likely be plot or character inconsistencies that I simply will not be able to iron out by talking to FanficGPT. The amount of times I have had to remind FanficGPT of what we have previously agreed upon is already getting out of hand. If (or when) I am driven mad by the amount of futile fine-tuning I have to repeat, I will probably abandon this work. Hopefully by then my experiment will have at least generated some valuable data for the developers at OpenAI.
I would like to acknowledge that many fan fiction writers have expressed their feelings of hurt and betrayal over how ChatGPT was trained on fan works without the authors' consent, and how some readers would gladly sideline human authors as long as the ChatGPT-generated contents contain the keywords that would get their neurons firing.
My experiment began before I became aware of the discourse surrounding ChatGPT and fan fiction and is merely for my personal enjoyment. The continuation of the project is in no way, shape, or form intended to be an attempt to take away from the hard works of fan fiction writers, or to diminish the seriousness and necessity of the debate on ChatGPT and fan fiction.
I do not own ChatGPT, the world of professional tennis, or A Song of Ice and Fire. I will take this fic down if it is in violation of the terms of service.
